Education

Chrysovalantou Chatziioannou is an analytical chemist with a focus on -omics applications. Having received her bachelor’s from the School of Chemistry of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh, 2011), her masters from the National & Κapodistrian University of Athens (2014) and her PhD from AUTh (2019), she got training in analytical chemistry applications and subsequent statistical analysis for -omics applications in national and international laboratories (Imperial College of London-United Kingdom, University of Groningen-the Netherlands). Her PhD thesis focused on the development of holistic analytical technologies (MS- and NMR- metabolomics and proteomics) for the discovery of biomarkers in neonatal biological samples (Necrotizing Enterocolitis and Late-Onset-Sepsis).

Employment

Chrysovalantou Chatziioannou worked as a post-doctoral researcher in CarbExplore BV, a spin-off company of the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. There she focused on developing methods and studying the milk oligosaccharides composition as well as other sugars of different origins. The derived information aimed to improve the composition of infant formulae and to promote neonates’ health, working closely with several industrial partners. Since 2020, she moved to France to work as a post-doctoral scientist in the International Agency for Research on Cancer-World Health Organization (IARC-WHO). There she explored the metabolic factors that may mediated the role of risk factors such as obesity in cancer aetiology through untargeted metabolomics approaches. In 2022 she was appointed Assistant Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Crete.

Scientific Interests

Analytical Chemistry, Metabοlomics, Proteomics, Systems Biology, Mass spectrometry, Chromatography, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy
