Human 15-Lipoxygenase-1

Lipoxygenases (LOXs) catalyze the insertion of oxygen into polyunsaturated fatty acids, resulting in signaling compounds that regulate several inflammatory diseases. Our research focuses on human 15-lipoxygenase-1 (15-LOX-1), an enzyme which is widely expressed in the central nervous system (CNS), and its catalysis products are critical factors in the emergence of brain pathology. There is a solid proof of evidence that connects 15-LOX-1 with various CNS diseases like stoke as well as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. In the light of the above information, we aim to thorough investigate 15-LOX-1 dynamics and develop next generation drug-like inhibitors.

SecA

More than a third of cellular proteins are exported from the cytoplasm, where they are synthesized, into and across cellular membranes. Sec pathway export is an essential process that takes proteins like antibodies and toxins, across the eukaryotic ER or prokaryotic plasma membranes. Post-translational translocation is used by the ~500 secretory preproteins that fully cross the inner membrane of E.coli through SecYEG and are released at the trans periplasmic side. SecA is the primary translocase receptor recognizing the preproteins. Our aim is to successfully define the SecA dynamics and to develop small molecule modulators as potential antibiotics.
