- written by user Katsampoxaki-Hodgetts Kallia

Today we will be discussing properties and trends of P block and in particular the nitrogen family (Group 15).

Note-taking task https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLrcnmgFm_0

As well as working on note-taking and vocaulary skills, we will learn how to design powerpoint slides and based on the reading we will create word-tables in preparation of our own presentation.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fs_jqXGs8s

We will also talk about cohesion and coherence using an excerpt from our EAP Chemistry book pg 49-51 on Fluorine.

Student handout for this week is in Files (Εγγραφα).

P block elements are good conductors of heat and electricity, since they lose electrons easily. They have high melting points and react with nonmetals to form ionic compounds. Maria Kakodeipnaki (3094), Danielita Danai(3181), Melina Alinejad (3096)

p-block elements are those in which the last electron occupies p-orbitals and are found in groups 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17 (except helium). Because p-block orbitals can only hold a maximum of six electrons, p-block elements are classified into six groups. Some metals, all nonmetals, and metalloids are among these elements.  Anastasios Milonakis 3184,.Apostolos Saltis 3174

Properties of P Block Elements The P-block elements consist of a wide group of elements. They span over a very large portion of the table, which helps to explain why the properties of the p-block elements change rather drastically from the far left side of the block to the far right side. The farther apart elements are on the table, the more likely they are to have differences in their properties (Ντενιερο Ταραι 3162, Εμμανουέλα Βελουση 3177)

P block elements belong from the 13th to the 18th group of periodic table. In the p block belong the non metals and the metalloids. Additionally they have small atomic range. Most of them are gases. Also in the p block belong the noble (kind) gases. Their last electron is in the p sub-shell. Last but not least they can only receive 8 electrons in the outer shell. With greetings, Paulos Kriaras, Stavros Alatsakis, Anastasis Varaklas.
