In the video below, we show you the key principles for designing effective PowerPoint slides for a scientific presentation.

Using examples from actual science presentations, we illustrate the following principles:

  • Create each slide as a single message unit

  • Explicitly state that single message on the slide

  • Avoid bullet points

  • Opt for word tables instead of lists/bullet points

  • Use simple diagrams

  • Signal and number steps in biological or chemical processes

  • Annotate key biological structures

  • Annotate data in tables and graphs

  • Use builds (animations that unfold gradually to add more content on the same slide)

    5. Design slides first adhering to video 2 instructions
    6. Narrate the presentation checking pronunciation with a friend of yours. 7. Create Screencast and upload it in e-class as an assignment.
