Matilde Russo

——————————————————
Matilde obtained her BSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Naples Federico II in 2020. She studied for her MSc in Chemical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano and received her degree in 2023. For her master thesis project, she investigated the pyrocarbon deposition mechanism during pyrolysis for turquoise hydrogen production. The objective was to look for activation energies and reaction enthalpies that could be used to evaluate kinetic constants to be implemented in the kinetic reaction mechanism for the pyrolysis. For the thesis she exploited quantum chemistry principles and numerical modeling tools to evaluate the energy of the molecules participating to pyrolysis. These species are graphene and gaseous small hydrocarbons such as acetylene. The energies of the structures were made both in homogeneous and heterogeneous phase, with the aim of finding a correlation between the two.
