English for Chemistry Foundation 2 (2025) (XHM-053)

This week we will be discussing issues relevant to water treatment methods. We will also listen to videos explaining waste water treatment methods

Next week we will be working on Part two of relavant topics. We will do a note taking task on Water as a solvent in organic chemistry, paraphrasing tasks and summary writing. We will also look at two student samples of Argumentative Essay Writing. 

During these two weeks we discussed and analysed many didfferent separation techniques. We also watched a video on Thin Layer Chromatography and took notes regarding the steps, the tools and the terminology used for this technique. 

This unit is included in our textbook "English for Chemistry". 

This week we will be using evaluation criteria of scientific presentations to evaluate the work of peers (you can find the criteria in the DOCUMENTS)

In class, we will  be working in groups to examiine key features and guidelines of lab reports [In the documents, you will find recommended resources you need to go through BEFORE you do the -optional-20%-project]. HEre is another useful link you may use.

Welcome to Engish for Chemistry 2. This is induction week so we will be informed about all assessment modes of this course, what unit/theme we will be working on every week and what is the [optional] project or report about.

Please bring your books to class everytime as there will be no handouts (unless the instuctor uses material that is not contained in the textbooks).
