• May 1989 - April 1994: Studies and Research towards the Ph.D. Degree (supervised by Dr. W.R. Cullen), Department of Chemistry, University of British Columbia, Vancouver B.C., Canada.

• March 1997-Sept. 1997: Postdoctoral Fellow (Training and Mobility of Researchers, EU) with Institute for Environmental Studies, Free University, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
• June 1996- Feb.1997: Postdoctoral Fellow with the Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry Group, Utrecht University, The Netherlands.
• May 1994 - June 1996: Research Associate (United States Research Council Resident Research Associateship Award) with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, at the National Exposure Research Laboratory, Characterisation Research Division in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Research interests

• Metal and Metalloid Speciation, Tandem Mass Spectrometry, Atomic Spectrometry, Separation Science.
• Determination of arsenic, tin, chromium, selenium and antimony species in environmental and biological samples, elucidation of biogeochemical pathways for their formation.
• Transformations of arsenic species in food products.
• Development of high-efficiency interfaces for coupling chromatographic techniques (micro HPLC, capillary electrophoresis and capillary electrochromatography) with sensitive and highly specific mass spectrometric detectors (inductively coupled plasma (ICP) mass spectrometry (MS) and electrospray ion trap MS).
• Development of high-resolution chromatographic and mass spectrometric methods for the separation and determination of organometallic compounds (organoarsenic, organotin, and organoselenium compounds).
• Development of Quality Assurance and Quality Control procedures for elemental speciation.
• Investigation of interactions between metal(-loid) species and biomolecules using mass spectrometric techniques.
